Day 3 for Mark and I and we had chosen to visit Kingsland Reservoir.  Large carp would be the quarry and after the previous day of lazy carping today would be a bit different. Kingsland provides their own nets so we would have an opportunity to weigh our catch to determine the winner. We picked swims on the first bank of the large lake near where we had fished back in 2014. Set-Up The fish were milling around so line would be quite simple. 6 metre line shallow Top Two margin line Bait list, casters, maggots, worms and pellets, plenty of pellets. All-In The fish were cruising around, so it made perfect sense to start shallow with a banded 6mm pellet.  Mark's tactics were the same.  The first fish came after 15 minutes of pinging pellets and slapping the float.  After an few hours I had a few fish in the net but the shallow approach wasn't consistent. The weather was very warm and the fish were cruising however they weren't taking bait from the top which

After 3 days at the Glebe, may as well make it 4 and I was closer to Cambridge than I was to London, so it was prudent to catch up with my old mate Mark to continue the battle for 2014 honours, maybe having a hot curry the night before wasn't the best idea... We decided to fish at Kingsland Reservoir again.  The lure of large carp was just too tempting.  We arrived early and managed to grab two swims together on the big lake.  A club was also fishing the big lake, so we were keen to stay out of the way. Mark chose a peg with a method feeder chuck to the aerator and I took the one to his right, one peg away from the nearest corner as you get to the lake. The Set-Up After 3 days at the Glebe I had plenty of sweetcorn left over, so decided to fish the following lines: 5 metre line Margin line Method Feeder, just in case Surprisingly bait was sweetcorn, hemp, left over casters, worms and some expander pellets as a change of hook bait.  A simple set up. The All-In We

My final day in Cambridge with Mark and the venue for today's competition was to be Decoy Lakes in Whittlesey but we changed our mind while grabbing sandwiches from the local supermarket, so drove to Kingsland Reservoir in Coates, just round the corner from Decoy Lake.  The last time we visited Kingsland was back in February 2012 . We had a wander round the small carp lake and decided to fish two middle swims giving us both an aerator as a fish holding area and as it was a Tuesday we had the entire lake to ourselves. The Set-Up We decided that today's match would be slightly different and that it would be a rod only affair, no poles.  so I set up the following rods: 10' Bomb Rod with in-line Method Feeder 10' Bomb Rod with a running bomb rig 13' Waggler Rod The All-In The aerator was the obvious target for the first cast, Mark also had the same idea so out went a small method feeder to the right of the target.  My plan was to leave this out for an hou

The weather in February has been a little harsh, so taking advantage of some improved weather forecasts and in order to get some silver fish practise in before my week at Stafford Moor with the Match Fishing Scene crew I decided to head to Kingsland Reservoir, Coates, Peterborough and have a session on the Silverfish lake. As usual, my mate Mark joined me, so this was going to be a battle for a point in the 2012 Mark vs Mark competition. My home for the day Kingsland Reservoir allows the use of keepnets during pleasure fishing sessions, so I purchased a proper match weigh sling for us to record more accurate weights for the 6 hour session. The weather for the day was overcast and the mecury was hitting a massive 8 degrees C with quite a blustery wind.  We both decided to fish with the wind at our backs and selected two pegs dividing the middle of the silver fish lake.  The aerator split our pegs and was an area that we would both target as potential fish holding areas wit

Heading back down to London after the Messingham Sands match I decided to drop in to see my mate Mark.  We decided to fish Kingsland Reservoir in Coates, near Peterborough. Kingsland Reservoir consists of three lakes, two with carp and one silver fish.  The fishery opens at 7am and we arrived early, 6:30am to find a queue already forming. The owner, Richard, very friendly man gave us some good advice and informed us that a match was going to be fished on the lake we wanted to fish and he gave us an alternative area.  We picked up the fishery landing and keepnets and headed to our chosen spot. It was quite overcast and windy so fishing a longish pole was out the question.  The two lines of attack I chose was a 5m metre line and method feeder towards the aerator.  Mark took the swim along to my right which gave him a better opportunity for fishing the pole and a larger margin swim. I was about to kick off my swim when Mark called over that he had a fish on and needed some help.
