MFS - Munkees vs Shandies, The Glebe, 9th September 2017

The Munkees were ahead of the Shandies and we only needed a few wins to get the overall result for the northern contingent.  The previous night we were "treated" to a bit of Twisted Biscuit, Sconey's band.  What a great nights entertainment however there was one gentleman who didn't really appreciate the music and was seen with napkins stuffed in his ears.  I missed the opportunity to grab a photograph. The Draw I certainly didn't want Pool 4 despite yesterdays great result.  I was more than happy when Pool 1, Peg 2 came out of the bag however, I had Peg 1 to beat which was fishing very well! Set-up Peg 2 is a know feeder peg and the far bank had been cleared as the gap between the reeds was pretty clear to see however it would take some good casting to plop it in the right area.  As yesterday I decided to set up the feeder rod, bomb and pellet (just in case), a 5 metre pole line and I had a pretty good margin to my right hand side underneath a tree. All

The annual Munkees vs Shandies at the Glebe which is a 3 day event organised by Sconey is another highlight of the the angling year.  I had missed Day 1 due to work commitments however Yidcarper (Ian) kindly took my place. The event over 3 days is fished as follows, Day 1 - Teams of 4v4, Day 2 - Teams of 2v2 and Day 3 is 1v1.  Points are allocated for the team each day which group is victorious across those days rolling up to the final Munkees vs Shandies team scores. The Draw Everyone at the draw didn't want Pool 4 as it wasn't fishing that well, even Pete Bailey had a nightmare on it the previous day with only 25lb of fish... this wasn't going to be the end of Pete's Pool 4 adventure either. I was the first to draw and had the choice of all the envelopes on the table.  The lads were all chanting, "Pool4, Pool 4...".  Opening the envelope I had took my folded up peg and opened it.  Pool 4, Peg 75! Hathers had predicted it as I've been on this p

A night at the Longshoot was reasonably quiet and I slipped away early in an attempt to dodge the hangover that normally follows.  It didn't go un-noticed as Andy T busted me.  Sorry matey ;-) The final day and it would be Munkee vs Shandee.  I did not want to be on Pool 4! The Draw I was second to draw from the Munkee bucket/ cardboard box.  I drew Pool 4, Peg 75 again!!!! I was not a happy camper to say the least!  Plenty of sympathy from the lads and plenty of micky taking too... My neighbour was Callum's secret friend Tom... the less said about that the better!  Only kidding lads. Set-up Well I didn't need to worry about my rigs and also the reel was still clipped up and I knew exactly where I had fed the previous but I needed to do something different today in an attempt to get a better weight. So I added the following lines: Bomb and Pellet Long Pole towards the aerator All-In Today the weather had turned and it was raining but the positive was th

Day 2 and I'd had a quiet night with the Mercers, Daddy May, Ben and Chris Martin which of course I received abuse for at the draw for "not being social" and missing the Longshoot drinks!  Typical, but at least I didn't have a bad head! ;-) Today was the pairs event, it would be myself and Scone vs Hathers and Pikey! The Draw Pool 4, where nobody wanted to be and I had the end peg 75 where Russ Shipton was on the previous day. I had Pikey as a neighbour for the day. Set-up Feeder line to the far bank, pole line at 5 metres and down the right hand margin. All-In The wind was blowing away from this peg and I was faced with flat water, with the all-in I went straight on the feeder line, feeling pretty confident after the previous day. Second put in on the feeder and I had a fish in the net, maybe today wasn't going to be too bad after all?  Well, after the first hour I had two fish in the net... oh dear. Pikey wasn't fairing so well either with

The motley crew gather! Munkees vs Shandies 2016 and it was an early start from London to get to the 9:15am draw.  2015 saw the Shandies victorious so the Munkees pride was at stake to regain the crown! It was great to see everyone, including the usual abuse from everyone! Today would be the team event, 4 vs 4.  The team I was in consisted of Scone, Andy T and Andy Kinder. The Draw The board that was chosen consisted of pegs on Pool 5.  My placement was Peg 84 which was a long feeder chuck and also next to Pikey. We would be fishing 11am while 5pm, so plenty of set-up time with the draw being at 9:15am. Set-up I set-up the 11 foot extreme feeder rod with a 30gram gripper mesh feeder.  I also set-up a 5m and margin pole line. Bait for the 3 days consisted of worms, casters, 6mm, 8mm and micro pellets, sweetcorn and dead reds. All-In Immediately out on the feeder for a number of reasons.  To get used to the bigger cast and to try to dominate the line as I knew Pike

The final day and the Munkees have it all to do today in order to claim victory.  The night at the Longshoot was quiz night and one team named themselves, "Munkees Nil"... that was a Shandie team.  There was plenty of cheating going on with google and shazam but hey we'll ignore that.  The highlight of the night was definitely the quiz masters version of Bruce's Play Your Cards Right.  Poor guy had to content with very loud cries of "higher", "lower" and "you get nothing for a pair in this game"! Those leaving after the quiz were all given a warm, "Good byyyyeeee" by the lads! Again, Pool 1 was were most wanted to draw and weights yesterday on the other pools were still down. The Draw I drew for Sconey and managed to bag him a peg on Pool 1.  My home for the day would be pool 4, peg 73 which saw a low weight of 30lb yesterday.  My Shandie match up was with Andy Day.  It would be a tough ask but I'd give it my best s

Day 2 and a few sore heads after a long night at the Longshoot.  Pool 1 had fished very well yesterday with all but one angler getting a 100lb plus net.  Weights on the other pools were well down  with some top anglers catching low weights from know good pegs. Again, Sconey had the draw all ready and today would be the 2 vs 2 round.  Paired with Sconey against the ever lovable Pikey and Hathers. The Draw As expected everyone wanted to draw on Pool 1.  I drew for our 4 pegs and we were all really pleased to see Pool 1 on our peg numbers.  I was very pleased to be on Peg 12, the peg next to my previous days fishing. Set-Up The feeder rod was still clipped up and the right distance.  I decided to also set-up a bomb rod for bomb and pellet as Chris Martin caught well on it yesterday.  Again, 5 metre line and a lovely looking margin line to my right. All-In Taking a learning from yesterday and Neil's (NS69) great start from the 5 metre line.  I started there and bagged a fe

It was with great excitement when the alarm went off at 6am that is was time for the Munkees vs Shandies at the Glebe in Peckleton.  The journey up the M1 was a pain especially the 50mph "average" tax, sorry speed scamera's.  It was great to see so many of the lads at the draw and the competitive spirit was alive and well with plenty of banter. Calum had baked another Munkees / Shandies MFS carrot cake... top job matey! The Draw Sconey ran through the draw, already organised all the pegs with an 'M' on for Munkees and an 'S' on for Shandies... simples!  Today would be a 4 vs 4, section of 8 competition. The envelope that we drew was for Pool 1 and Peg 11 would be my home.  My neighbours for the day Neil and Chris Martin so there would be plenty of banter. Set-Up My match plan was going to be keeping it simple revolving around the 5 metre line, margin and feeder. The bait list was a little long but to cover the options.  Sweetcorn, hemp, dead

Elvis Presley lives!  Well he did visit the Longshoot last night.  I've never seen the place so packed.  Together with the XXL burger it was a quiet'ish night.  I was knackered and headed to bed well before the rest of the lads, some of which where up until the small hours. Arriving at the fishery it was clear who had been out on a big night.  The final day and the scores between the Munkees and the Shandies was all tied.  24 points on offer today and it was one Munkee verses one Shandy a head to head battle, who would I be fishing against and where would I draw? The Draw Pool 1 for the third day running, this time Peg 24.  One down from my day 1 draw and the Shandy I was up against?  My old mate Steve 50-50, so time for another £2 bet. The Set-Up After seeing yesterday fish were being caught shallow I decided to change my match plan.  I set up the following: Feeder rod which would double as a bomb and pellet line 13 metre shallow 13 metre at full depth 5 metre l
