MFS - Stafford Moor - Silvers Festival, 25th February 2014

Day 2 of the festival and the weather this morning looked like it would be a nice day. The Lodge of Plenty hosted most of the lads last night, although I managed to get to bed just after midnight. Col cooked up a cracking lamb curry. Andy G provided the entertainment as per usual with his impressions of everyone and trying most of the drinks on the table! The Draw I would be fishing Woodpeckers today which had fished hard yesterday. Getting to the draw I pulled out Peg 16, a very easy walk from the car park. Col, aka Billy No Fish (BNF) pulled out 12 meaning he would be next to me and I had a chance of getting my second red shirt! Other lads in the same section were Herbie, Jamie (ASBO Twin) and Kenfish. The Set-Up I spoke to Tonkin Tommy who had drawn Peg 16 yesterday. The pole lines would be: 13 metres at 2 o’clock pointing to the island 13 metres straight ahead 5 metre line straight ahead, opposite a stump in the water  I had decided to adopt a different feedin

My 3rd year at one of the festivals of the season. I arrived in Devon the night before and was greeted by the motley crew at the lodge of plenty, namely Col, Paul (Animal), Paul (No Hope) and Shedders. It had been a tough weekend of a birthday and flat warming party and this week would just serve to top up the hang over’s. A beer was quickly dispatched and many of the other Stafford Moor festival goers turned up to the lodge of plenty. The traditional Sunday roast was served by Col, a cracking rib of beef, although there were some complaints that it was that rare it was still walking around outside… A long night ensued, late to bed and early to rise… Col dished out our normal full english breakfast which would see us right for the day and we headed Andy Seery’s shop for the draw. The Draw The normal pushing and shoving in the shop was occurring. Herbie, Andy and Chris were sorting all the monies, pegs and rules out, although we still cannot understand Herbie’s local yokel

How End Fishery, 2nd February 2014

Image
The first chance to fish against Mark in the 2014 Mark vs Mark competition and we decided to go visit Pebs at How End.  I sent Phil (Pebs) a quick message and it happens to be a winter league team match on today and he was short of anglers, so Mark and I were quickly drafted into the team.  The weekend weather had improved a little since last week and I was looking forward to fishing How End again.  Great to see some of the locals, Baz, Trevor and Big Ben who I saw last weekend. The Draw All gathering in Peb's tackle shop, both Mark and I would be fishing Yasi's lake, which was my preference as I've not had the best of times of previous visits to Dani's lake.  I almost got to the front of the queue by pushing past Trevor who quite rightly put me to the back of the queue, mumbling words such as, "cheeky young product wearing geordie..." I pulled out Yasi's peg 13 and Mark got peg 6. The Set-Up I'd been on this peg before on the How End two day

MFS - Lakeside Fishery, 26th January 2014

The first match of 2014 and its the MFS Champions League match at Lakeside Fishery .  I was looking forward to seeing the usual suspects at this match particularly as some of the 'characters' were here today... aka Pikey, 76 Trombones, Shedders and Colbrad to mention a few!  18 of us were fishing and the weather wasn't looking the best.  Hey Ho, I'm back on the bank so not too bothered. Finding the fishery was pretty simple, providing you put the right location into the SATNAV eh Ron? ;-)  I made a bit of a boob by leaving my trolley handles back at the flat car park.  I must have reversed over them and not noticed.  So it could be a number of walks around the lake with my gear. The Draw Carl used his girlie shopping bag, the monies where paid by everyone and the draw started.  My dip into the bag produced peg 7 which lucky for me was close to the car, but unlucky for me, the wind was blowing at me and across me... it would be a cold day ahead. The Set-Up The

Gold Valley - Open Match, 20th December 2013

2 months since I was on the bank so I was itching to get out and about, so with no local MFS matches I decided to get my butt to Gold Valley in Aldershot.  The weather has turned very cold, there has been plenty of rain this week and I've heard that Gold Valley has been fishing hard recently so I wonder what today holds? The match today is on Gold Lake, Canal bank and after speaking to a couple of people, Marcus Page and Brian Green I knew that it would be a tough day and luck to drawn on the fish... The Draw Only 11 of us fishing today and the weather was pretty miserable although the car temperature was reading 10 degrees.  I drew peg 24 which was an end peg, but at the unfancied end of the lake, typical! John allowed us to drive to our pegs which was greatly appreciated and made life a lot easier. The Set-Up I decided after looking at the peg and with the wind that today would be a bomb and feeder approach only.  So I set up two identical rods one with a 1oz bomb and t

Sconezone Bespoke Side Tray

Christmas comes early for me this year!  Santa Claus this year came in the form of Ian Toplis, aka Sconey whose fame includes those great Sconezone floats and bespoke side trays. I spoke to Sconey at the Northern Monkees vs Southern Shandees 3 dayer about making me a side tray. Being an all round good egg, Ian agreed and I sent him some drawings of what I was after.  Today, the doorbell went and a large package arrived... here is the result! Big thanks to Ian, the quality is exceptional.  If you want a side tray, get in touch with Ian via his website, http://www.sconezone.co.uk you will not be disappointed! Cheers Lewy

Winter Update... work gets in the way...

Hi all, Well Christmas is on it's way and the weather has taken a turn for the worse... but for me recently I've been on my travels with work covering 30,000 miles in 5 weeks, Australia, London, Dubai, India and then back to London.  This resulted in 2 cancelled matches ;-( I'm itching to get out on the bank again and will be fishing this saturday (21st December) at Gold Valley in their Open Match. Keep an eye out for the blog, in the meantime, tight lines, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. Cheers Lewy
