After a run of disappointing results I was hopeful that I could salvage some champion league points at How End with the MFS lads.  I've had quite a good run at How End and was pleased to be fishing Yasi's a lake I've had most time on. I've also had one particularly bad session on Yasi's, but the less said about that, the better... it cost me a pound to Baz and also a potential ban from the fishery by Pebs under the guise of bringing How End's good name into disrepute ;-) The fishery was really busy with a How End Team Winter league decider being fished, so it was great to see some of the other lads, luckily there was one space left in the car park for me. The Draw Baz ran over the net rules only to be corrected by Pebs... how many times have you fished here Baz?  My lot for the day would be peg 12. The Set-Up I didn't even bring any rods today so the pole lines were as follows: 13 metres at the start of the far shelf 12 metres mid way down the f

Dani's - Peg 4 With Christmas approaching and the weather starting to really turn wintry I was itching to get out on the bank again.  A quick call to Phil at How End Fishery to find out if there were any open matches available and he mentioned his club, Kingfisher AC where having a winter league competition on Sunday. I know quite a few of the lads who would be fishing and they kindly let me join in on the action.  Saturday morning brought the first frost in winter and Sunday morning while not frosty was pretty cold.  The journey from London to How End was pretty quick at early o'clock on Sunday and I was quickly greeted or maybe abused by the lads who were already there.   The Draw Today we would be fishing Dani's lake.  The wind was pretty strong and the clouds were not looking inviting.  So where would I be today?  The hand reached into the Puma trainer bag and pulled out Peg 4, probably one of the easiest pegs to get to from the car park. The Set-Up Setting

That smile says it all! When a friend asks if he can come fishing with you one day is too good an opportunity to demonstrate that fishing isn't about sitting by a pond, lake or river watching a float sit in the water all day long, but a chance to get someone else interested in the sport, to catch some fish (hopefully) and generally have a laugh along the way. So when Charlie expressed an interest and I missed his 30th birthday as I was away, yes, you've guessed it, fishing, it was an opportunity I just could not pass up.  So a days fishing was my birthday present to Charlie. The Venue I decided to go and see Peb's at How End Fishery in Houghton Conquest, somewhere I've had a few successes, some great laughs and also a blank session! A quick call to Peb's to check that Yasi's would be free for the day, which is was and to pick a peg that we knew would produce fish on a short pole line, so Peg 11 was mentioned. So the day was set and after a fantastic

What a great night, the BBQ was going, there was CO2 "nuggets" cooling peoples beer and often freezing it, gazeboo gate 1 where the gazebos blew over and new ones put up in there place. Football won by MFS, luckily no injuries, plenty of beer, wine and spirits flowing.  Shedders bringing midnight snacks.  Professor Colbrad picking up and sleeping in the wrong sleeping bag, coupled together with plenty of laughing and DJ Dum Dum, music for young people. You can imagine there were a few sore heads in the morning! Day 2 was upon us.  Today I'd be fishing Yasi's and with a great result yesterday I was hoping to back it up. The Draw Peg 10 on Yasi's came out of the drawbag for me, another great peg with the aerator.  Alan, my fishing partner for the weekend gave me some good advice on how to fish the peg.  3 foot depth, fish on the slope for the barbel towards the aerator, don't both about going over to the far bank. Once again I was pegged next to Pe

Another event that is a regular date in the diary, the How End vs MFS two dayer.  Last year was a blast, not only the fishing but the craic with the lads and the hospitality of Pebs, Tarnya and the family.  Day 1 and I arrived a little late with plenty of the lads already in the car park unpacking their gear. Weather was pretty good although the forecast was predicting showers later in the day, but that wouldn't dampen anybodies spirits!  Mistake one for me as I was getting my gear together, I'd forgotten to bring some socks... oops, Pete Bailey stepped in a with a clean pair of Nike socks... cheers matey, they have now been washed, but not ironed ;-) The Draw So as we were waiting for the draw and Pebs was giving his rules speech, Simon from How End handed me what looked like a car key remote which I though would make some funny noise.  Pressing the button I got an electric shock akin to an electric cattle fence.  Well the lads were laughing away and of course this inter

The start of 6 fishing days for me and a return to Peb’s place, How End Fishery. The talk on Match Fishing Scene was that a draw on Dani’s would be favourable given the expected weather. My record hasn’t been to good on Dani’s. The usual suspects were at the fishery, always great to catch up with them all. The Draw With Yasi’s and Dani’s in the bucket and most people wanted Dani’s, given how the weather was developing even I start to hope for a draw on Dani’s. So, I was very pleased when Dani’s 15 came out of the bag. The Set-Up With an island chuck the method rod came out of the bag and I also set up a 5 metre and margin line on my left. Bait was simply caster, maggot, corn, micro pellets and expander pellet. The All-In By the time we had all set-up the wind was blowing straight down the lake, today wasn’t going to be easy for those on the pole! Potted in on the 5 metre line with a squeeze of micros and some casters and then straight over tight to the island with the

My last trip to Peb's place, How End, was a disaster with me blanking!  Peb's had put me on probation so it was with a little trepidation that I returned to How End to put the records straight. Today was a MFS Champions League match so I was eager for a good result.  We would be split across Dani's and Yasi's lakes.  The weather over the weekend had been quite warm in London but a cold snap overnight hopefully wouldn't dampen sport today. The Draw I really wanted to fish Yasi's, mainly as I've had most experience on that Lake, so typically I drew in Peg 2, Dani's... My neighbours for the day would be 3 Shirts Shedders and Colbrad.  I was also in a split section across Yasi's and Dani's for CL points... Not the best, but you take your lot. The Set-Up Dani's is a bigger lake than Yasi's and as such the waggler and feeder/bomb rods come into play.  I had a good peg so I felt confident.  The setup was as follows: Wagg
