Margin Munters, Tees Valley Lakes, 24th August 2022

Another evening outing with the work crew, this time we would be targeting the margins with proper gear.  One member of the team was missing however, Foxy, the tench tamer couldn't make the evening.  He did miss the action that was for sure!

The Pegs
Our normal pegs over the back of the lake which is mainly sociable and helps my "gilly" duties.

Set-up
I'd brought my carp top kits with elastic rated 14-16 coupled together with some proper carp rigs, 0.4g on 0.2 diameter line and size 12 hooks to a 0.17 hook length.

Bait was a simple dead maggots and sweetcorn and I'd mixed up about 5kg of groundbait.

The Session
Jack arrived first and had set up his waggler rod and of course as Tees Valley doesn't disappoint was straight into fish.

I set Aimee up with a top kit and dropped some groundbait into the edge with no loose offerings and put around 8 dead maggots on the hook.  It was taken straight away with an angry carp however it turned out to be foulhooked and the hook pulled.

The groundbait had brought the fish in, it had just brought too many in... Aimee next fish would be the best fish of the evening and after much elastic stretching, she landed a long mirror carp.

Jack was bagging silvers and carp on the waggler while sploshing in the groundbait.  His swim was like a Jacuzzi.

Meanwhile Aimee and I were taking turns on the top kit margin swim.  Plenty of fish gracing our nets together with some quality silver fish.

Jack realised after being smashed up about six times that his hook length was too light.  He was using a size 18 to 2lb hook length, not the best for carp bagging, so a quick change to a heavier hooklength material and he was back in business.

We had a great session, using all the groundbait up just before dark.  I'll let the pictures complete this blog however we did miss Foxy!
