Always fun sitting in the water... Day 2 and I would be on the match lake at Larford.  The nights events for me were uneventful as I was cream crackered and went to bed at a reasonable hour, that was after an "all-you-can-eat" indian buffet at the hotel.  It was clear that a few people didn't have such an uneventful night, for example, Calum Craig, aka Maver Calum.  He didn't look well and almost missed the draw. Another small match was also booked on the Match lake which was going to make it a full lake.  Some people also volunteered to go back on the Speci lake to make the pegging a little easier. The Draw Peg 8 on the shallow bank would be my home for the day.  Carl was on this peg yesterday and had 80lb so I knew it would be a good area.  It would be a 5 man section and I was at the end of that section with a spare peg to my right.  Ian on my left and Mark on my right. The Set-Up Matt gave me some more helpful advice.  Method, Pellet and Bomb, 13 metre

My fourth year at the Larford Lash-Up.  This year we stayed at a different hotel to Chateau Disney which gave the event a different feel.  I'd travelled straight from Paris so was pretty knackered by the time I arrived so it was an early night for me, which in turn meant a clear head in the morning ;-) The Draw Names where called for the draw and of course every peg that was drawn there were shouts of, "flyer!".  I pulled out peg 12 on the Burr bank of the Specimen lake which is a great area. Not too long a walk to the peg unlike previous years where I've been on the Chalet bank...  Arriving at my peg I would have Baz Wrexham and Jads for neighbours so I was expecting just a little bit of craic! The Set-Up I'd spoken to Matt and Glen who advised Method feeder at around 25 yards, 5 metre line and the margins later in the match.  So the set-up was as follows: 5 metre line with around 6 feet of depth Margin on the left Method rod Bait for the day was

Maver Match This - Larford Lakes, 5th April 2014

The opening competition for the Maver Match This series at Larford Lakes. I've had some good sessions at Larford with the Match Fishing Scene crew over the past 3 years at our annual Larford Lash-Up event so while not thinking I'm going to win this match, at least I should be able to post a decent result. It was an early start from London to get to the venue before the 9am draw, but with an early start comes no traffic so I made the journey in under 2 hours. It was great to see a few familiar faces like Andy Kinder, Sarah, Churchy, Baz Wrexham and Rob Bagger Austin! The Draw 101 competitors had their names down and the draw was in order of ticket sales which went very smoothly rather than the standard push and shove of the queue.  I was lucky to draw 6th and picked out peg 48 on Match lake, burr bank. I'd been in this area before on last years Larford Lash-Up, peg 58 to be exact . The Set-Up The water level had been dropped in order for the event to take place

Saturday saw the final day of the Larford Lash-up and today I would be on the Specimen Lake.  There were a few sore heads from the night before but no notable incidents as with previous Lash-Ups... The Draw I drew on the Chalet Bank of the Specimen lake peg 67.  I've only ever fished the Chalet Bank so I had a pretty good idea of what to set-up.  My neighbours for the day would be Duffman and Bruce but unfortunately it would be a quiet match as we couldn't see each other due to the thick foliage around our pegs. The Set-Up As I was tackling up, Andy Kinder and Sarah came past.  Andy's comments on the peg were nothing but great, in fact pegs 67-65 were his favourite area's on the Specimen lake.  The approach would be as follows: Bomb Rod - Bomb/Pellet Bomb Rod - Method Feeder Top 2 + 3 sections straight ahead Top 2 + 2 margin swim to my left & right under the tree  Again a simple bait list, 8mm Fishery Pellets, micro pellets, Sweetcorn, Expander Pellet a

My third year at the MFS Larford Lash-Up... It's not all about the fishing, but the social aspect which means we are normally at the bar until late at night!  I arrived at Chateau Disney (Impney), quickly unpacked and headed down to the Robin Hood pub to meet the Thursday night crew.  It was great to see Paul (Animal) who has not really fished this year and the usual suspects, Col (BNF), Jase (Jadstar), Paul (NoHope), Jay (Pellethead) and of course Andy Kinder and Sarah. It turned into a late night, topped up with a few beers at the hotel bar just to top us up.  Up early, breakfast and we all headed out to Larford Lakes. There were however two late comers for entirely different reasons... Tonkin Tommy's satnav packed up and he ended up taking, well should we call it a bit of a detour?  A journey that normally takes 20 minutes turned into over an hour for Tonkin.  Then there was Steve May (Poolsfodder) who was stuck on the M6 due to a nasty accident for 3 hours... The Dr

Day 2 of the 2012 Larford Lash-up... how many competitors would make the bankside after the massive night at Chateau Disney???  Well surprisingly all of them, although there were a few notable incidents in the middle of the night and one particular MFS'er , who shall remain nameless who didn't get back to the hotel until 7:30am... Colin (BNF) had claimed to victims of the famous "Battered by BNF" t-shirts, Jads and Rich Bedder... some how, Jads t-shirt ended up left at the hotel... check out the pictures at the bottom of this blog ;-) The Draw Again, Andy and Sarah Kinder had this well organised.  Those anglers who had fished the Match or Arena lake where to draw from the Specimen lake bucket and vice versa.  Two semi-orderly lines formed and I drew out Peg 56 on Specimen lake, two thirds the way along the Chalet Bank. Neighbour for the day was Anthony, who I was pegged next to the previous year along with Bob Poole... I wonder if I could reclaim this £1? Tod

Day 1 of the 2012 MatchFishing-Scene Larford Lash-up as organised by Andy and Sarah Kinder and kindly hosted by Phil Briscoe, Maver MD.  A record number of attendees this year, around 85 and the hangover started early after a night with the lads at the Robin Hood Pub down the road from Chateaux Disney .  I was an honouree "Jock"for the weekend which was a privilege and also meant I was in the "Top Jock" pool totalling £8 pounds, Scottish or English, it didn't matter ;-) The Draw With so many anglers and the late arrival of Jason who had all the match sheets, Andy and Sarah Kinder did a cracking job of getting us all registered, pools paid and generally organised.  I drew out Match lake, permanent peg 28, an end peg plus it was the peg that won Les Thompson the £50,000 first prize on Maver's MatchThis competition . My neighbour for the day was none other than Bob Poole, who I sat next to at last years Larford Lash-up .  Maybe a chance to win my pound b

Great exercise! "Day Two at the MFS Larford Lash-up"... Day two was always going to be harder, especially after a night out with the MFS massive ! Most of us arrived at Larford Lakes looking a little worse for wear!  Today we would be fishing the Specimen lake which holds some very large carp or "horses" as fellow anglers like to shout when they have landed one... I drew peg 65 which is on the fair bank of the specimen lake and an area that is a good area for the skimmers and the odd bonus carp.  From the car park to the peg was quite a walk, especially when you have to lump all your gear on a rather small trolley come wheel barrow... My neighbour for the day would be no-other-than Scone, of sconezone and great pole floats fame. The Approach After speaking to Rob Austin, he recommended method line at 16metres, bomb and pellet further out and a meat line at 5 metres if the carp come in. So that was the approach.  Again, due to the low water levels we

Larford Match Lake Said in a Big Brother voiceover, "Day One at the MFS Larford Lash-up"... Well actually it may have been Day One, but that was followed by night one, Thursday night out with a small group of MFS'ers  in the Robin Hood, Droitwich . I followed Animal and Colin (BNF) to Larford Lakes .  On arrival we met up with Andy Kinder and his lovely wife, Sarah.  Both the match lake and the specimen lake water levels were quite low and today we would be fishing the match lake. The match lake has two sides, the burr bank, which is the man made bank between the match and specimen lakes and what was referred to as the shallow bank.  The bur bank pegs had deeper water, the shallow bank turned out to be very shallow, 18inches of depth at 13metres... Walking round the match lake before the draw there were fish very close in, their backs out of the water, plenty topping, in fact it looked stuffed with fish and not just small fish. The draw arrived and the mot
