The Oaks, Sessay, Maple, 12th June 2022

June's venue for fishing was back to a commercial after the wild, natural waters of Lake Semerwater.  Only two of us available for this outing so Rich picked The Oaks at Sessay.  It's been over 11 years since I'd been here and with this weekend being free from big matches as ideal chance to pick on of the snake lakes and get some pellet and F1 bashing done. The Draw We had a wander around Maple, just behind the cafe and then walked over to Cedar via Oaks and back via Willow (the specimen lake). Both Maple and Cedar are about 14 metres wide and ideal for a pole only attack. We ended up selected pegs 13 and 14 on Maple where there wasn't an advantage over each other and made the fishing social. Set-up I'd only packed the pole to be honest and set up the following lines: 13 metres across - full depth Top 2 and 3 section off to my left - full depth Shallow rig Bait was extremely simple.  Fishery 4mm and micro pellets together with some 4mm expanders prepared the nig

Hoppy's Memorial Match organised by the lads at Peg 32, Poplars Lake, The Oaks Anglers Cabin .  I was looking forward to meeting them all, especially after seeing the banter on the forum. The weather for the day was around 14 deg C, very little wind and quite bright.  Over the weekend the first frost had fallen so would it affect the fishing? I got to The Oaks at Sessay around 8am and quickly headed into the cafe for a bacon buttie and cup of tea.  I spoke to Tom, the owner/baliff and he mentioned that finer lines would be the order of the day, maggot or pellet as bait.  I grabbed 3 pints of mixed white / red maggots, pint of casters and some micro pellets.  My other bait choice for the day would be worm and sweetcorn. As I'd not met the Anglers Cabin crew I proceeded to walk around the different groups of anglers in the car park if they were fishing Hoppy's Memorial match... in typical fashion it was the last group I saw that were the lads.  The banter starte

After my day at Drayton, I headed North for the rest of the weekend and decided to fish The Oaks at Sessay, Thirsk.  I have an upcoming match with the Anglercabin guys in October that is on the Poplars lake, so this was my chance to familiarse myself with the venue. The Wilton Angling Club were also fishing the lake, they had pegs 20 through to 54, so the pleasure anglers could select pegs 1-19.  After having a bacon buttie from the friendly and well stocked on-site cafe and buying some 4mm and 6mm fishery pellets I headed down to the lake and found peg 6 looked inviting.  Results from the Wilton Angling Club match on Poplars can be found  here . A couple of anglers had already taken up residence on pegs 1-5 and a few more a bit further up.  I had peg 7 free and thought I could use that to my advantage later in the day. Set Up Plumbing up I found two and a half feet in the channel, just under two foot in the margin and that the far shelf extended quite far out from the bank
