The second round of the Bernard Parrot Memorial to be fished at Stockbridge Pond near Tilford and another very warm Autumn day with bright sunshine and no cloud. The Draw Peg 10 came out the hat for me, so I'd at least have some lily pads to target. Set-up The lily pads would be the main attack today so I chose two swims: End of the pads Shallower line towards the middle of the pads The waggler rod was also set-up as a secondary plan.  Bait was all natural casters, maggots, worms, sweetcorn together with some micro pellets and F1 Dark groundbait. All-In I decided to start quite negatively and cupped in a small ball of groundbait with some chopped worm on the long lily line and some casters on the short lily line.  Giving it time to settle a quick dabble on the waggler. The waggler was producing roach and small perch however in spells of two to three before they would back off. Trying the long lily line the chopped worm had obviously had its effect and I was bri

Checking my diary and it had been over a month since my last outing... to say I was getting cabin fever is an understatement! Farnham Angling Society were at Badshot Lea small pond a venue that I really enjoy so it was a simple decision. The Draw Thirteen of us fishing, third last to draw today and I pulled out peg 29, in the middle of the far bank. Set-up Arriving at the peg, with the wind and rain driving, even though the weather forecast predicted the weather would ease I decided not to setup a pole line.  I even discounted the margins which could potentially be a big mistake. It was rod only today.  Two feeder rods, one with a traditional running feeder set-up and the other with a hybrid feeder, both fished on the same line short of the half way point on the lake. The waggler rod would be fished around pole range, so approximately 16 metres. Bait was F1 Green Sweet, maggots, casters and micro pellets. All-In Two balls of ground bait laced with casters on the wagg

Back to Stockbridge with Farnham Angling Society for the bank holiday weekend. The weather this week has been warm and sunny and it was great to see the lily pads while up walking round the lake as it really helps to define where the real fishy swims will be, especially peg 9 known as the double lily swim. The Draw Reports from the previous week is that the deeper part of the lake (pegs 14 upwards) hadn't fished as well as the earlier, shallower pegs. A group decision was taken to fish pegs 2 through to 14, the shallower pegs. I was last name on the list so ended up with Peg 14 and the scales.  I was not unhappy with the draw as I had Avery short walk from the car park but more importantly some lily pads to target. Set-up As always at Stockbridge, the Waggler rod came out of the bag and was plumbed to full depth, marked on the rod and then set to half depth to sew if the roach were up in the water. Pole lines: 13 metres targeting the lily pads on the right 12 met

After nearly a month of no fishing it was back to Stockbridge Pond with Farnham Angling Society for one of the regular Sunday matches. A good turn out, with 19 fishing so both sides of the lake would be in use today. The Draw Talk was that everyone wanted the closer, shallow bank rather than the higher peg numbers. My home for the day would be lucky for some, peg 13.  One peg along from the last match I fished here. Set-up The Waggler is a must at Stockbridge so that was first out of the bag, given the days weather, warm but overcast I opted to start this at half depth.  A feeder rod was also set-up to fish over the waggler line. Pole lines where: 10 metres ahead to fish the edge of the lilly pads 13 metres to my left in open water at the same depth of the 10 metre swim 10 metres swivelled round to the left hand margin with a light rig in case the roach where there Bait all natural, maggots, casters, worms, some sweetcorn and a little bit of groundbait for the feeder.

The morning started off frosty with the need to clear the car windscreen before heading off to the lovely Stockbridge Lake with Farnham Angling Society. Arriving at the lake, the water looked pretty clear with plenty of surface activity and some turns dive bombing the smaller fish. The weather forecast was favourable too, so a good day ahead beckoned… The Draw Being last on the match sheet I actually never got chance to draw today. Peg 12 was left in the bag for me which included scales for one half of the section. 15 anglers today so we were spread out across the bank nearest the car park. Set-Up Waggler and feeder rod to fish close to the middle of the lake and I selected two other pole lines at around 13-14 metres in front of me. I managed to get a decent depth of around 5 feet and the pond is pretty uniform at this depth. Bait included maggots, casters, worms, sweetcorn and hemp. I knocked up a small amount of groundbait for the feeder and one of the pole lines.

FAS - Kings Pond, 7th April 2019

The first match of the new Farnham Angling Society season today at Kings Pond on the Badshot Lea complex, for me anyway. The weather over the weekend was mixed with a cold snap and over cast weather on the Sunday so I felt it would be a more negative feeding approach than positive. The Draw It was a full house at Kings Pond today, 16 pegs, 16 competitors… the draw was most orderly too. Richard Cain calling out the members in the order they had booking onto the match. I was fourteenth to draw and peg 13 came out for me. For note, the first time I fished here I was on peg 12! Set-Up The far bank was calling, however the choice would be waggler or feed/bomb. I decided to set-up a small feeder and clipped up to fish as close to the protective fence as I dare. Pole lines set-up as follows: 14 metres left and right side (to the tape), finding the same depth to reuse the rig Top two and 2 left and right side trying to find the edge of the lily pads (which are still submerge

The weather is starting to close in for winter with the temperatures starting to drop and the sky constantly grey with a fin mist spray soaking everything that is outside. It would be back to Badshot Lea Little Pond for todays match with the Farnham Angling Society. The Draw It was decided that we would fish the shallow end of the lake on both sides rather than taking a full bank, so pegging would be from peg 17 on the near side bank and 23 on the far side bank where it is between three and four foot in depth. Peg 17 would be my home for the day and also an end peg! Set-Up  I had a chat with Eddie regarding the pole line, he mentioned it was pretty shallow at my end of the lake so with that bit of advice and looking at the peg I decided to keep the pole in the bag and break out the rods. Feeder rod for fishing a drennan method bomb to fish a PVA bag Feeder rod set up with a traditional running open ended feeder Waggler rod to fish the pole line Bait menu today dead

A beautiful autumn day with blue skies and a slight breeze greeted us all today at the very picturesque Lodge Pond today with Farnham Angling Society. The Draw With nine anglers it was decided to once again split the section between the two banks, five on the closer bank and four on the far bank. I was hoping to grab a peg on the far bank as I hadn't fished that bank yet. Instead, peg 1 came out, which is probably the best peg on the near bank! Set-Up The rods were an obvious choice and infact I had planned to fish the t-bag given the colder conditions. So I had two rods out, a bomb rod, that could be swapped to a small cage feeder if required and another rod with a mini hybrid feeder. I was considering a pole line for the margin and I had come armed with an appropriate elastic today unlike my last visit! I decided against the pole line and I would use either of the feeder rods to check out the margins if I needed too. Bait consisted of some dead maggots, a pint

Sunday's match at another new venue to me, Kings Pond between Badshot Lea big and little ponds. Sunday was almost a washout for me, literally. The weather on Saturday night was horrendous. Sunday morning greeted me with a semi flooded back garden, with our neighbours garden looking like a swimming pool so I sent a text to the match organiser saying I was going to give today a miss. I can hear the calls of fair weather fisherman now! I grabbed a coffee and the rain stopped. A quick check on the weather app and it was predicting a beautiful sunny day, so I finished loading the car and called Richard, our MO to tell him I was on my way. I turned up at the fishery, a car park that I'd not been to before 5 minutes late for the draw however everyone had waited for me. Thanks guys! The Draw Peg 12 with Tommy as one of my neighbours, again! The other side of me, Richard. With the exception of the end pegs to my right, all the pegs looked pretty even in that they ha

Back to Badshot Lea Little Pond for today's Farnham Angling Society match. The day after all the firework display's and the weather wasn't too cold although it didn't know whether or not it wanted to rain or not. The water still had some colour in it although the margins where pretty clear. It was going to be a day of negative fishing to try and winkle out some of the better bream in the lake. The Draw Peg 36, so the only area I have fished on the small pond having drawn up here every time.  The lads mentioned that the pegs further down are the better ones and we did have a debate whether or not to drawn on both sides of the lake at the far end. Neighbour again would be Tommy! Set-up Feeder rod with a small Drennan cage feeder on and the following pole lines: 14.5 metres at 11 and 1 o'clock Margin line to my right Bait for the day, casters for going through the feeder and loose feeding over the pole lines, dead red maggots together with micro an

Lodge Pond set in the beautiful Alice Holt Forest offers the promise of some great bream sport mixed in with plenty of silvers and carp too and it happens Sunday morning turned out to be a beautiful day with bright sunshine and a little wind. A totally new venue to me and an outing with the Farnham Angling Society guys. The Draw There were enough of us for two section payouts split by which bank you where on. Most people wanted the far bank, 16 through to 21 which is home to the larger bream. My home would be Peg 2, so the near bank for me with Tommy on 3 and Terry on 1 as neighbours. Set-up Lets just say that the set-up did start that well for me, especially as I was positioning my seatbox and my sunglasses fell off my head into the murky water... 5 minutes fishing round with the landing net and I gave up. I'll grab them at the end of match by stripping off a little is what I thought. My second mistake was to leave my power kits for the pole at home! It's only

It's been sometime since I've managed to get out on the bank and today was the next match in my diary. Fishing with Farnham Angling Society (FAS) at Stockbridge Pond. The weather had been pretty bad after Storm Calum did it's thing on the country and of course it had rained overnight introducing cold water to the stream fed pond. So on arrival the water was pretty gin clear. Fourteen of us fishing today and the draw was quickly underway after the usual discussion about which pegs to use. The Draw  Peg 29 would be my spot for the day over the far bank and also happened to be the end peg! Set-Up Feeder to target the centre of the lake and two pole lines at 13 metres. I did contemplate setting up the waggler and in hindsight maybe I should have. Bait consisted of maggots, caster, small tub of worms, sweetcorn, special 'G' Dark groundbait. All-In I decided on a double negative approach today given the rain last night and the water clarity, so I cu

No match this weekend so I decided to head back to Badshot Lea small pond, peg 38 to test a theory I had after my previous weeks match.  The theory?  Well more groundbait on one line to hold the larger fish  together with some hook bait changes. Weather was very similar to the previous week together with quite a few carp anglers at the bottom end which almost simulated the match conditions of the previous week. My aim was to start my "match" at 10:30am and fish until around 2pm. Set-Up Longer feeder line this time, just short of mid way. 14.5 metre lines same as the match, 11 and 2 o'clock. I set up two different pole rigs this time, one that was around an inch overdepth and the other a double bulk where the second smaller bulk where actually on the deck looking for the tell tail lift bites. Bait, maggot, caster, micro and 6mm pellet. Groundbait was a 50/50 mix of a method mix and dark sweet fishmeal F1. All-In Rather than pot in 8 balls of groundbait

Blackwater River as it's named after the river that runs through the pond. Stocking wise it's dominated by silvers, roach, tench, bream, perch and the odd crucian carp together with their larger cousins of carp to 10lb. See more about the pond on Farnham Angling Societies website, more here The Draw  The far bank is where we would be drawing pegs for with plenty of space between the anglers as the pegs in the bag went from 26 through to 40. The banter at the draw was that the lower pegs would be where the bream. My home for the day would turn out to be peg 38. Set-Up I spent around 10 minutes with the bomb rod checking the depth on what would be the feeder line and opted for an area at around 25 metres where I found some gravel although the overall depth of the lake is pretty shallow at around 4 feet. Pole lines were: 14.5 metres at 11 O'clock  14.5 metres at 2 O'clock  6 metres straight ahead  6 metres down the right hand margin  The bait menu con
