MFS - Glebe Pairs, 7th June 2014

Image
The friday night at the Longshoot was a long night!  Even more people looking quite tired at breakfast the next day. Another big breakfast was required and it was off to the Glebe for the final day of the pairs. Heading back to the fishery and my car now full of groundbait would have another small disaster... I almost missed the turn into the Glebe and put the brakes on a little bit too hard.  Result....???  Yep, you guessed it, the groundbait bucket came flying towards me and now covered the front of the car... there was grounbait everywhere, in the back, the front, all over the centre console, in the air vents, on the dashboard, all over me, the seat, everywhere!!!! This wasn't the worst of the mess! Of course my groundbait incident was the source of much amusement to the lads!  It's Audi's new grounndbait interior, Krill special! There were many people late for the draw that day, again I'll mention no names.... you know who you are... The Draw Today

MFS - Glebe Pairs, 6th June 2014

Two days of fishing with 60 of the Match Fishing Scene lads, what a way to spend two days!  I arrived on the Thursday night at the infamous Longshoot, a quick pint with Sconey, Red Army, Neilo, Pete Bailey and the other lads before grabbing a taxi to a curry house near the Glebe to see "Mr Dwarf", "Mr Thin", Steve 50/50 ('cause I can never make up my mind) and Neil (please Katie, stop calling me for baby making duties). A great night was had by all, most notably myself and Pete Bailey, er, discussing, not arguing about which Range Rover (Sport or Full fat) or Audi gets the most fishing gear in!  With great food and plenty of wine the hanger was going to hurt the next day especially once we got back to the Longshoot we ended up back in the bar... The next morning arrived and there were a couple of people still in their beds, mentioning no names eh Pete ;-)  A Longshoot breakfast, copious amounts of toast and coffee and off to the fishery. It was great to

MFS - Munkees vs Shandies, The Glebe, 7th September 2013

The final day and the Monkees only need 8 points out of the 20 on offer to secure the bragging rights over the Shandees. Today the match rules allow any method with in the Glebe rules.  We would be fishing one on one and we wouldn't know who until the draw was completed. Phrase of yesterday, "you fringe" was being used to excess mind you! The Draw The Shandee's drew first and put their names down on the boards split across Pools 4, 5, 6 & 7.  Then the Monkees drew.  My draw was Pool 6, peg 88, the exact peg that Sconey was on yesterday, my competition was Rick (Happy Dangler) on Peg 89.  Funnily, Sconey drew my peg from yesterday Peg 86 and he would be fishing against Shogun. The Set-up Based on yesterday experience on Pool 6, I opted for the following: 5 metre line straight ahead Left hand margin at 4 metres Feeder rod set up to exploit the far bank The All-In Learning from yesterday I cupped in two large pots of hemp and corn on the

Day 2 which is a float only day and teams of 2 vs 2.  The weather had turned for the worse.  It was raining and overcast, probably an ideal day for the feeder to be honest! Most were suffering from the previous night at the Longshoot! The monkees were 4-1 up on the shandees and today there would be 10 points available for the winning teams. The Draw Hathers drew the envelope that contained our 4 pegs.  I drew peg 86 on Pool 6, Pike peg 87, Sconey peg 88 and Hathers on peg 89. I had been on peg 86 before back in 2012 for the Connor Whip Charity day .  It is known as the "little girls peg" so of course Pike and Hathers were taking the mickey, just a little... The Set-up I was thinking about setting up a pellet waggler but after a chat with Sconey and Roy Marlow it was clear that the 5 metre line would play a big part in today's match.  So I set up the following: 5 metre line straight ahead at full depth and also a shallow rig 13 metre and 5 metre margin

3 days of fishing at The Glebe ahead with 39 other Match Fishing Scene members, fishing heaven in my mind!  To top it all some of the MFS Jocks would also be there at the same time, bonus! A 3 day event like this especially at a fishery with a reputation for the amount of tins of corn anglers have fed presented a challenge to ensure I had brought the right baits and plenty of it, better have more than not enough...  the bait list was: 12 pints of 6mm pellets 2 pints of 8mm pellets 6 bags of Marukyu EFG 151 8 Bags of frozen sweetcorn 8 pints of hemp 3 pints of casters 2 pints of dead red maggot For the final day I'll tell you what I used and what I came home with... I arrived the night before at the Bosworth Hall Hotel which is only a 15 minute drive to fishery so it was great to be able to have an easy morning, i.e. a sleep in and a relaxing breakfast. It was great to see plenty of familiar faces from up and down the country, it didn't take long for the micke

MFS - Northern Munkees vs Southern Shandies - The Rules

Image
The Rules as written by Sconey.... Thursday Pools one, six and seven. Foursomes (4 Munkees  v 4 Shandees...all pegs in a line in one of 5 sections) 3 x 8 peg sections on Pool one 1 x 8 peg section on Pool six. 1 x 8 peg section on Pool seven. Both teams have been allocated equal numbers of end pegs. (This applies to all three days) The draw will take place at 10:00am in the marquee at The Glebe. I will call up anglers to draw (there will only be 5 anglers called...simple..!) They will draw one of 5 envelopes...these will contain Munkees  and Shandees pegs. The Foursomes will then "draw for themselves" from these envelopes then record their names with Pikey in the marquee. You will all fish from 11:30am to 5:30pm  (six hours)...rules are as fishery rules for nets (minimum 2 nets...one for silvers and carp under 2 pound, the other for carp over 2 pounds...100 pound strict net limit. If you go over 100 pounds in a net, the total that you go over will be deducted fr

Connor Whipp Charity Match, The Glebe, Leicestershire, 26th June 2012

Image
Brian Green, Proper Tidal Boy on Match Fishing Scene had organised a charity match for his nephew, Connor Whipp who has neuroblastoma a form of childhood cancer.  The venue was Roy Marlow's Glebe complex in Leicestershire But first a little about Connor.  Connor is 4 years old who loves Captain America.  In fact the treatment Connor needs is based in America and family and friends are on a mission to raise £250,000.  Connor's favourite super hero, Captain America is going to help him beat his illness.  If you would like to donate to Connor's appeal, please donate at this website: http://www.bmycharity.com/ConnorWhippAppeal The Night Before... A little tired after the previous night I decided late on the Sunday night to travel down to the infamous Longshoot hotel for some craic with the lads as I thought it would be better than having to get up really early on Monday morning and battle the thousands of commuters from Teesside to Leicester. Pulling in

MFS - England Ladies Fundraiser, The Glebe, 2nd August 2011

Image
My second MFS match at the Glebe in Leicester and a fund rasier for the England Ladies team.  What a great day out! I arrived around 8:30am and quickly met up with the MFS massive, BNF, Animal, Scone, Woody, Slider and Snooty Fox.  BNF was looking forward to giving out another "Battered by BNF" t-shirt, but today would be different... Colin (BNF) walked me round Lake 1 at the Glebe and helped with a match plan as I'd never fished the venue before.  The Glebe layout for the match lakes is fishing one bank only, so it would be feeder to the far boards for the first hour and then after priming the pole lines keep checking them for fish. So, 9:30am quickly arrives and we all form the normal "orderly" queue for the draw.  BNF pulls out an end peg on Lake 6, so he is over the moon, Slider then pulled out the peg next to him... Would Slider be the next proud owner of the BNF t-shirt? I drew Lake 1, Peg 2, just missing out on the end peg.  The bonus was that
