The previous evening in Salisbury was a normal Withy occurrence with us all decending on YOYO's bar and ordering 13 Rum punches in one round!  The poor bar staff certainly earned their wages that night!  Some more drinks in the Kings Head and back to the kebab shop for some late night food.  The most memorable part of the evening had to be Giles who nipped for a pee, walked to the end of the bridge jumped the wall only to find the drop a little further than expected and ended up in a pile of nettles!  Could this be a dildo award nomination? The Draw Arriving a little late for the draw I found out today would be on the inner snake high peg numbers, aka Cyanide or Suicide straight!  I drew Peg 59, mid way down the straight and once again was next to the Bard and also Bez for the day. The Set-Up Peg 59, the far reeds were definitely calling for a rig far over.  I also had an area which was cut back so that would also be targeted.  Three main lines today: 14 metres across to

Withy 2014... The buildup had started early on both Match Fishing Scene and Facebook.  The drive from London was without incident and I arrived at the fishery to meet up with the majority of the lads.  A beer was quickly put into my hands by Jaap Stam (of West Ham) and the banter began! New boy, DumDum (Adam) handed me a piece of sandpaper along with the comment, "just in case you have forgotten your exfoliating sponge again", much to the amusement of the lads.... This of course, was my dildo award from last year. Two mini cabs arrived an whisked us all off to our hotels and the nights entertainment started. We were joined in the pub by some other Withy lads and before we knew it, the pub was shutting and the kebab house was calling... No YOYO's tonight, that pleasure would be saved for the Saturday night. Kebab dispatched, back to the hotel with Animal and Pebs around 1:30am not feeling too bad to be honest. Next morning we had a very civilised br

After a night of much merriment and playing pool with ladies underwear on... yes, that was the rules otherwise you were fined the Withy 2013 crowd gathered in the cafe for the final day of the weekend.  Again, the weather was cracking, bright sunshine with a few clouds in the sky, maybe not ideal angling weather but none the less I could top up the tan, sorry sunburn! The Draw I was going to be on the outer snake high numbers today and the draw revealed I was on peg 36 (I think).  The Set-up Arriving at the peg, I had a great margin line to my right to the next platform, a 16.5 metre stretch to the far bank and the bridge over the gap between the outer and inner snake lakes.  Rolly wandered by and told me to set up a small pellet feeder and cast it to the bridge area, saying, "the tip will go round all day...".  So the set up was: Pellet Feeder 16.5 metre far bank pole line 13 metre right hand margin top 3 left hand margin 5 metre meat line Bait was sweetcor

The Annual Withy event with the Match Fishing Scene lads this is one of best weekends I've ever had the pleasure of fishing/socialising especially after last years event. The Draw Peg 5 on Cottage came out of the bag for me giving me a great island chuck straight ahead and a long left hand margin swim to the corner where the wind was blowing into.  Neighbours for the day would be Sconey and Withybagger. The Set-Up The island was an great target area and I had plenty of room for pole lines, so I set up the following: Method Rod 13 metre left hand margin swim 14.5 metre swim straight ahead 5 metre meat line Bait for the day was luncheon meat, sweetcorn, dampened 4mm and micro pellets, 4-6mm expander pellets and some worms for the hook.  I also mixed up some dark sweet fishmeal groundbait to cup in loosely on the margin line. The All-In I cupped in some pellets and meat on my two pole lines straight ahead and went onto the method feeder for the first hour of the match

Day 2 of the Withy bash.  The previous nights outing in Salisbury was pretty much as the friday night, a little drunken, although we did end up in a cracking curry house! Today I was pegged on the Snake Lake, outer ring, low peg numbers or cyanide straight as the lads call it. The Draw I drew peg 14 and had WithyBagger and McPikey for neighbours on the day. The Set-Up Today would be pole only, no need for rods and with 14 metres across a relatively easy day to fish the far bank.  My lines were: Far bank Down the track (10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions) Margin swim to peg 15 The All-In I cupped on the two track lines, one with meat and the other with pellets and went straight over to the far bank with a 4mm expander pellet and kinder pot with 4mm and dampened micro's.  I was told to fish tight up against the bank and the float soon buried due to a small skimmer.  The action then started, repeating the process but with a 6mm expander pellet the first large

Day 1 of the MatchFishing-Scene two day Withy bash in aid of the Steve Ramsey charity.  After a big night out in Salisbury we were all feeling pretty hungover and tired, mainly due to the copious amounts of cocktails we had all had in YOYOs (Your Only Young Once) My section I would be fishing Selwood Lake today and then the outer snake lake low peg numbers, also know as cyanide straight the following day.  Nick who organises the day scores the two days by sections and points for your section placing.  The final day placings are dependant on points scored and in the case of any draws weight will determine placing. The Draw I drew peg 4 on Selwood and had Jamie and Bez for neighbours.  Peg 4 had an island chuck but also a large bay that I would be sharing with Jamie. The Set-up Method feeder to the island Pellet Waggler rod 12 metre pole line 14 metre pole line to Peg 3 Inside pole line Bait for the day was 4mm & 6mm expander pellets, corn, red maggots, lunche
